Tolley calls time on Bucks
Wednesday 11th October 2006, 11:51AM BST.
The 23-year-old, pictured, first spoke about leaving to managers Rob Smith and Larry Chambers two weeks ago but agreed to hang around during the recent injury crisis.
Tolley, who started his career at Shrewsbury, made his last appearance for the club in Saturday’s 2-1 win over North Ferriby United.
He spoke to Smith again yesterday to inform them that he would be moving on, with Newtown most likely to be his next port of call.
His departure leaves only Dean Craven and goalkeeper Stuart Brock as founder members of the club’s squad.
“I’ve loved every minute at Telford but being on the bench, there’s only so much you can take before your confidence dips and I didn’t want that to happen,” said Tolley.
“Rob and Larry are top men but I felt it was time I moved on. I’ve not got anything concrete sorted but I’m going to go and have a meeting with Roger Preece at Newtown tonight. I know Roger and he’s a top man and it’s a club that’s on my doorstep.”
Chambers insisted: “I’m disappointed to lose him but he’s conducted himself very well. Glenn was a key member of our squad so it may be one out and another one in and we’ll sit down and talk about that tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Telford will keep tabs on Rugby Town striker Jason Taylor, who they have now spoken to after putting in seven days’ notice last week.
The 20-year-old admitted he would be interested in a move, but wants to stay with Rugby for their FA Cup campaign.
Bucks striker Dean Perrow had an outing for Walsall Wood last night, scoring in their 2-1 win over Highgate United in the Midland Combination as he bids to improve his match fitness.
Justin Marsden came through training last night and should be in the squad for Saturday’s UniBond League trip to Prescot Cables.
But defender Richard Teesdale has had a setback in his recovery from a broken toe and will not be back until the end of the month.
