Attack of the giant birds!

Wednesday 11th October 2006, 11:52AM BST.

Ben Hollins, pictured, of Fordhall Farm, was called in to help catch the first bird when it was spotted by a neighbour running among sheep in the fields around his farm on Friday.

Volunteers managed to capture the bird and take it back to the farm while a search for its owner was carried out.

The following day Mr Hollins received another call from a shareholder of the farm who spotted a bird of the same description in his garden near Bottom Lane. Once again baffled farm staff were sent out and captured the second bird.

Sophie Hopkins, of Fordhall Farm, said: “These birds have great characters and I think they will form a good talking point for visitors.”

Farm staff and police officers carried out inquiries to try and find the owner of the birds, but so far have had no success.

If no one comes forward to claim the birds they will be welcome to stay at Fordhall Farm. The unexpected addition to the Fordhall flock comes as staff celebrated the signing of a new 100-year tenancy for the farm.
