‘Happy slap’ fears over attack
Monday 9th October 2006, 8:27PM BST.
The 55-year-old, pictured, of Little Dawley, had asked a group of four youths on the number 11 Arriva bus to stop misbehaving because they were disturbing other passengers.
When the bus arrived at the Abraham Darby School stop in Madeley at about 11.45pm they dragged her off and punched her to the ground.
They kept hitting her until she managed to get up and make her way back to the bus where the driver called police and an ambulance.
Mrs Borg, who was left bruised and covered in blood, had been travelling from her daughter’s home back towards Little Dawley when the attack happened.
She said: “I didn’t know what was going on – they came from all directions. They were hitting me and punching me but I was determined to get up.
“My jacket and the bus cabin was covered in blood and my face is a mess, I’m in a lot of pain.
“I want justice on this – I’m not allowing them to get away. What they have done is wrong, I never want to see this happen to my children.”
Mrs Borg said she heard the girls talking about their mobile phones during the attack and suspects that they were taking pictures.
“As they were attacking me they were saying something about looking for their mobile phone,” she said.
“I don’t know if they were trying to take pictures or film it or something.”
Her daughter Maria Richardson, 27, added: “We think it might have been a happy slapping thing. It was totally unprovoked – she is such a good person.”
Mrs Borg spent five hours at the Princess Royal Hospital and went back on Sunday after feeling unwell.
The offenders are described as 16 to 18 years old and white. Two were wearing dark clothing and the other two light.
A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “We are eager to trace people who were in the area where the offenders were asked to leave the bus.”
Anyone with information can call (08457) 444888 or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
