Mayor stunned by space price

Wem residents could solve their parking nightmare by snapping up this single car parking spot – but the unusual buy will cost them a cool £8,000.
Space number 11, in Castle Court, is causing quite a stir and drivers are already showing interest in the costly spot, which is not far from the town centre.
People hoping to take advantage of the “excellently situated” space, off Barnard Street, are invited to make offers in the £8,000 region with Stokes Estate Agents.
Today, town mayor Councillor Peggy Carson said she was “flabbergasted” at the price tag.
She said: “I think it is a first for Wem, and even north Shropshire. I was flabbergasted when I saw it – it is quite laughable and I think people will be amazed.”
Today, John Stokes, a partner at the Wem-based estate agents, said there had already been some interest.
He said: “We have put garages up for sale before but never a parking space.
“The space is surplus to what the owners need. They have a property in the town with two spaces and they are happy to let one go.”
Parking has been a controversial issue in north Shropshire for years and last week district councillors voted not to introduce charges across the area. For details about the space contact the agents on (01939) 232471.
