Warning on road closures
Thursday 5th October 2006, 8:09PM BST.
The two-and-a-half-mile route for Oswestry’s Ho Ho Santa run on December 3 has been published by the Hope House Children’s Hospice, which says roads will be closed to traffic for varying times.
Althletes and fun runners alike will race – all decked in Santa suits – from Oswestry’s livestock market, to the traffic lights, through residential areas, around Castle Street and back through the town centre to Cae Glas Park. Roads closed at various times will include the Shrewsbury road, Lower Brook Street, Oswalds Well Lane, Castle Street, Beatrice Street and Church Street.
The event – which will controversially take place on the same day as the famous Newtown Santa Run – will be the culmination of a weekend of festive celebrations for Oswestry.
Festivities will begin on the Friday evening with the Oswestry Christmas Live event which transforms the town centre into a giant funfair and music venue. Road closures will begin at 3pm. The Saturday will see Oswestry’s traditional Christmas procession wind its way through the town centre during the morning.
