Hunt for dog after boy attacked
Thursday 5th October 2006, 11:38AM BST.
Matthew Evans, 15, from Gobowen, is recovering from the injuries he suffered when the dog, thought to be a Rottweiler, jumped at him as he went to collect his papers from the West Place Stores in Gobowen.
Matthew was bitten on the arms and chest in the attack. Police said today the animal had still not been traced.
The incident happened on Monday at around 3.50pm. The dog knocked Matthew from his bike then, while he was on the ground, bit him. Other youngsters started to scream and the dog ran off.
Oswestry Borough Council said today its dog warden had not picked up an animal from the area.
And police said they were still appealing for anyone who knows who the dog’s owner might be to contact them.
Vicky Evison, from West Place Stores, said she was concerned that such a large dog could be out and about and not under control.
“We had heard of a dog wandering around the area before. I have warned the newspaper deliverers to avoid the stretch of road where the dog ran up to Matthew,” she said. “If it had been a much smaller child then the results could have been far more serious.”
