Town in line for 70-job windfall
Wednesday 4th October 2006, 10:50PM BST.
Whittan Storage Systems is set to transfer its workforce from NC Brown’s Storage Equipment factory to its Link International business on Halesfield industrial estate in the new year.
The move could see 67 jobs heading to Telford over two phases, due to be completed by March.
Bosses at the firm were today refusing to comment but it is understood staff in Bolton were told about the plans last week.
David Buller, Whittan Storage Systems’ publicity manager, said today: “We are not making any comment about it at this stage.
“There is something going on but we are in consultation with people at the moment.
“It is not going to happen overnight and it could take up to six months.
Meanwhile Lloyds TSB today announced it is to close its national training centre in Telford. All 18 members of staff will be transferred to the bank’s other bases in the county.
The training centre, behind the Park Inn hotel in Forge Gate, will close in December.
Lloyds TSB bosses said it was axing the centre, which serves about 4,000 staff each year, because of a change in its training needs.
Emile Abu-Shakra, spokesman for the bank, said: “We are a huge group and our training demands are constantly changing.”
