Retail Eyes, a customer evaluation company, released the study to coincide with National Customer Service Week which runs from Monday.
Spokesman Dan Brown said: “The study was based on all types of places, from toy shops to chemists and the list is based on the result of all the mystery shopping which takes place in the UK from January this year.
“They were compiled by postcode and the questions vary but include friendliness, cleanliness, product knowledge and for pharmacists, medical knowledge.”
The results were based on responses from mystery customer visits in the TF and the SY postcodes.
The Telford area postcode showed an average score of 85.5 per cent compared with the SY postcode score of 81.8 per cent. The Midlands average was 81.7 per cent and the English average was 80.8 per cent.
Telford also was ranked third overall in the entire UK after Guernsey in the Channel Islands and Kilmarnock in Scotland. The best area for Wales was Llandudno.
The study was based on the results of a total of 49,211 mystery shopping trips conducted throughout the UK by Retail Eyes.
