Police name biker killed in smash

Thursday 28th September 2006, 10:00AM BST.

He was travelling on the A519 between Woodseaves and Sutton when the accident happened.

Mr Stevenson’s Honda bike was in collision with a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a white Vauxhall Vivaro panel van on the country road.

He died at the scene of the accident, which happened on Tuesday at 10.20am.

The crash closed the road for about five hours while the scene was cleared and the circumstances investigated.

The van drivers did not need hospital treatment but were suffering from shock.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or witnesses to call Constable Gareth Lloyd at Stone police on 08453 302010.

Meanwhile, an 84-year-old man is in a critical condition in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after a separate crash, which left the A5 closed for several hours last night.

The injured pensioner, who is from the Oswestry area, was trapped in his car for an hour before being freed by firefighters in the A5 accident just before 8.15pm yesterday.

He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with serious head injuries and was today in a critical condition.

The crash on the westbound carriageway between junction seven of the M54, near Wellington, and the Preston island resulted in huge tailbacks of traffic.

The Central Motorway Police Group was called to deal and police sent out an accident investigation team.

The CMPG has appealed for anyone with information or witnesses to call them on (0121) 6261285.
