Town boss hails entertainers

But, in a similar reaction to the 2-2 draw with Darlington on Saturday, supporters again showed their appreciation of the team’s display a the full-time whistle.

And Peters has demanded his team use the home double-header as the benchmark for Gay Meadow performances.

“It was another strong performance and we are playing high-tempo, exciting football,” said the Town chief.

“We are starting to get confidence that we can hurt teams when we attack them.

“We have got goals in our team, we just have to be a bit more clinical when the chances come along. But we have set the standard now.

“It’s different away from home because sometimes you have to keep the opposition crowd quiet.

“But when fans come to Gay Meadow they will be hoping and expecting to watch the same type of performance we have given in the last two games.

“If we can do that I am sure some of the floating supporters will keep coming.”

Peters’ pleasure at his side’s two stand-out performances is tempered by the knowledge that four home points have gone begging in as many days.

“That is really frustrating because we have played well enough to win both games against two teams who are up there in the table,” he added. “It wasn’t quite as decisive as against Darlington because Walsall had the better of the first 15 minutes and had a lot of corners near the end.

“But in between we had the chances to win the game and played well. “We just have to keep going. We are getting better and looking strong in all departments.

“We have played 10 games, including a lot against the teams at the top, and I don’t think we have deserved to lose one game, which bodes well.”

Meanwhile, Blackburn defender Luke Jones was set for a run-out for Town as a trialist in this afternoon’s reserve team game at Chester.

Striker Glynn Hurst continues to impress in his loan spell at Bury. He scored again in last night’s 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley, taking his tally to three in two outings.
