Man dies after car park fall
Thursday 14th September 2006, 3:25PM BST.
Two ambulances were called and the man was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital, where a trauma team was placed on stand-by.
But the man, who suffered multiple injuries, died at about 2pm.
The car park remained closed while police continued their investigations.
Telford police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said: “The man involved in the incident at the Cherry Pink car park has died from his injuries at the Princess Royal Hospital.”
Shropshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman Daphne Lewis said investigations were continuing but it was believed the man jumped from the top of the building.
She said: “A male came off the top of the multi-storey Cherry Pink car park in Telford town centre at 9.07am.
“Two ambulances were at the scene as we received several reports of the incident.
“A 40-year-old male had fallen but we believe he may have jumped 60ft. We cannot confirm that at this stage.
Mrs Lewis said there was only one casualty and the second ambulance was not needed.
Telford Shopping Centre manager Ray Hoof said he could not comment because the matter was under police investigation.
A police vehicle was parked at the scene to stop people driving in to the car park while investigations were being carried out.
Police are appealing for anybody with any information to contact them on 08457 444888.
