Telford still to fire on all cylinders

Tuesday 12th September 2006, 11:38AM BST.

The Bucks head the UniBond League premier division on goal difference after a fine start to the campaign.

But assistant manager Larry Chambers believes his side have yet to truly hit top gear.

“We are pleased with the start and Saturday’s performance (in the 4-1 win against Ossett Town) was very good in parts,” he said.

“But we still think we can do better and the pleasing thing is that the players have that attitude too.

“It’s pleasing to have started well but we are not kidding ourselves and know the hard work has only just started.

“We are top of the table know and teams will always try to topple the one at the top.

“We have to be good enough to be able to cope with that.”

Town will run a late fitness check over forward Gary Hay who missed Saturday’s victory with a groin strain.

“He is travelling with us and we will have a look when we get there,” added Chambers.

“Gary’s had a lot of physio since the weekend and his chances of playing are a lot better than they were on Saturday.”

If Hay doesn’t make it, Dean Perrow could be pushing for a start after stepping up his comeback from injury with a 15-minute substitute outing at the weekend.

On-loan Tamworth forward Lee Moore is also available but the Conference club have ruled him out of Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Halesowen to avoid the striker becoming cup-tied.

Radcliffe are currently languishing in the bottom six but Chambers added: “That’s probably a false position for them.

“On their day they pass the ball well and can be one of the best footballing sides in the division so it will be another tough one.”
