Farming cause of suffering

Friday 8th September 2006, 11:35AM BST.

A rather different account was given by BR Lewis, who claimed his garden was full of birds.

Perhaps he lives on a different planet to the rest of us. I can remember when the dawn chorus was deafening, but not anymore!

As for Evans’s accusation that I hate all farmers, I want see farming pushed to extinction, and I must be a vegetarian – he is right.

Except my hatred is not for crop farmers, they need all the help we can give them.

My hatred is solely aimed at the cruelty prevalent in intensive animal farming, and let’s not forget the suffering animals endure at the slaughterhouse.

You, Mr Evans, obviously see no wrong in intensively rearing birds and animals.

Your past letters show that you also have no qualms about seeing foxes, deer and hares tortured to death for the fun of it.
