Speeding rap ends in tears
Friday 8th September 2006, 5:01PM BST.
On her way back, and being unfamiliar with the road she was on, she mistakenly overtook a police car thinking she was still within the speed limit, only to find out seconds later, courtesy of the police car’s blue lights, that she was wrong.
But, in a spectacular example of blowing women’s lib right out of the water, my colleague did what any self respecting woman would do in such circumstances…turned on the waterworks and promptly escaped with a warning!
The official explanation given by the officer in question, who my colleague (she really isn’t doing the cause of women any good) assures me was “gorgeous”, was that because she was from Shropshire she couldn’t be expected to know the speed limit on the stretch of road in question.
If only they put up signs or something, eh? If I sound slightly bitter its because the other week I was done going through roadworks on the way to a court case in London by an automatic average speed check.
No-one pulled me over so I didn’t get the chance to blub my apologies. Not sure fluttering my eyelashes would have worked, either.
