Town festival spectacle

Friday 1st September 2006, 10:20AM BST.

Performers include human equestrian act El Gleno Grande, the All-star Skateboard Stunt Show, spoof Australian TV cook Steve ‘Woko’ Jackson and escapologist Byron Bertram.

Director Bill Ferguson, who organised similar events in his native Vancouver before coming to Shrewsbury two years ago, said: “The first show is up and there is a large crowd of people having a great time. It is shaping up really well. It looks like we have got a winner on our hands.

“There are comedy acts, escape acts, trapeze acts, and this is the first time ever for Shrewsbury.

“What is so special is that these are the top performers in the world and they are all friends of mine who have agreed to come here.”

Performers will be at Pride Hill, at Darwin’s Gate on Mardol Head and in The Square until 6pm today, and from 11.30am to 6pm tomorrow and Sunday.

There will be also be surprise shows inside the Pride Hill Shopping Centre, live music outside The Wheatsheaf in the High Street and impromptu street stunts around the town centre tomorrow.
