Ex-Shrew to sue Rooney
Friday 1st September 2006, 10:24AM BST.
But in his recent autobiography, Mr Story So Far, Rooney accused the Scot of being overbearing, controlling and ultimately responsible for his £27m transfer to Manchester United in 2004.
In the book, which was serialised in a national newspaper, Rooney claimed that Moyes – who played for Shrewsbury Town in the late 1980s after signing from Rangers – appeared to be “envious” of the attention being lavished on him.
Moyes’ lawyer Mel Goldberg confirmed this morning that the Everton manager will issue proceedings against Rooney.
He said: “There are couple (of comments) but I think the main one is ‘Moyes forced me out’.
“No manager wants to lose his best player and that was far from the truth.”
Rooney was idolised by Everton fans and many felt dismayed at his departure.
Mr Goldberg added that Moyes worked hard to keep Rooney at the club, and was “upset” by the claims, which included an allegation that Moyes leaked a story about Rooney and his brothel-visits to the Liverpool Echo.
A spokesman for Rooney was unavailable.
