Tributes to father in car tragedy

Monday 28th August 2006, 8:51AM BST.

Michael Griffiths, 43, from Trench, died on Saturday – four days after the collision outside the Asda store in Donnington Wood.

Today his devastated wife Ann described him as “one of the most honest, hardworking and gracious people you could ever wish to meet”.

She said “life would never be the same” without her husband.

The couple had lived in Trenleigh Gardens, Trench, since they married 18 years ago and had two children together.

Mr Griffiths had worked as a baker at family-run bakery A J Rowe in Hadley since leaving school.

Mrs Griffiths, 38, said today: “He was a fantastic father to our two children and a caring and loving husband to me.

“Life will never be the same without him and the pain will never heal.

“His cheeky smile lit up the room and now it feels as though that light has gone out.”

Mr Griffiths died at the Princess Royal Hospital after being struck by a dark Toyota RAV4 as he walked outside the main entrance to the Asda store at about 3pm on Tuesday.

The driver, a woman in her 60s from Wellington, had to be cut free following the accident and suffered facial and chest injuries.

A police investigation is under way and Telford & Wrekin Coroner Mr Michael Gwynne has been informed of Mr Griffith’s death.

Police said today a post mortem was expected to be carried out tomorrow or Wednesday. Anyone with information on the accident should call 08457 444888 or Crimestop anonymously on 0800 555111.
