Shropshire Apprenticeships Live!, which is being organised by the Ladder for Shropshire to highlight the benefits and opportunities presented by apprenticeships, takes place from 3pm to 7pm on March 14 at Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow.

More than 20 different colleges, training providers and employers have already agreed to take stands at the event, which will be the biggest apprenticeships event to have been held in Shropshire.

These include businesses such as automotive pressings specialist Stadco, ABP Food Group in Ellesmere and Shrewsbury, and services giant Interserve.

There will also be a string of "have-a-go" activities on different stands, allowing young people to try their hand at different potential career paths.

These include butchery demonstrations and an electrical challenge involving a traffic light-style circuit.

Jamie Pugh, marketing and development officer for the Ladder for Shropshire, the Shropshire Star-backed scheme to create apprenticeship opportunities for young people in Shropshire, said plans were in place to ensure that as many young people as possible could attend the event.

He added: "The Ladder for Shropshire will be visiting schools and colleges as well to promote the apprenticeship route and provide further information about the event.

"Last year in Shropshire alone there were more than 2,500 apprenticeship starts and we hope that this event will help even more young people start successful careers locally."

Seminars will take place during the day, with presentations focusing on NHS careers, RAF careers, hospitality, and the electrical and engineering sectors.

Any young people who would like to sign up to these should visit www.shropshireapprentice ships.co.uk/contact A limited number of spaces are still available for those hoping to book stands at the event. For a booking form, e-mail ladder@apprenticeship-providers.co.uk
