Ladder for Shropshire scheme will reach out to schools

A major apprenticeship campaign in Shropshire will reach out to schools in a bid to pair businesses with the best candidates for their roles.

The Ladder for Shropshire, which is backed by the Shropshire Star and training providers all over the county, has helped create more than 85 apprenticeships since its launch earlier this year.

Severnside Housing is the latest organisation to sign up to the campaign, and has pledged five apprenticeships.

Now the Ladder appeal will partner with about 30 local schools.

"The aim of this is to give young people a better understanding of what they have to gain by choosing the apprenticeship route," said Jamie Pugh, marketing and development officer for the Ladder for Shropshire.

"We have been delighted by the response from local businesses to this campaign, and it is clear that they see the value of acting now to ensure Shropshire has a strong and capable workforce in the future."

Dates have already been agreed with Sundorne School in Shrewsbury and Lakelands Academy in Ellesmere, which will see representatives of the Ladder talking to pupils about apprenticeships.

Young people have already found roles in sectors including business administration, health and social care, construction, vehicle repair and maintenance, agriculture, electrical and plumbing.
