BBC Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, who runs his own farm in Gloucestershire, has been filming a DVD called The Smallholder Series at Whittington, near Oswestry.

The 46-year-old presenter spent a day with smallholder Andy Cawthray to learn about his Chicken Street poultry business.

Father-of-three Mr Cawthray has built up an extensive collection of traditional and rare-breed poultry at his smallholding over the last 11 years.

Mr Henson said: “I have enjoyed meeting people in Whittington. I had a lovely time.

“I am a farmer myself and I am learning from the people here and Andy is a great wealth of knowledge.

“I am not only doing filming for the smallholders series but I am also absorbing knowledge. It is a good set up with poultry.”

Carole Youngs, producer of the series, said: “We went to the poultry auction in Oswestry as well and filmed that. It was a really fantastic set up.”

Mr Cawthray said: “It is very exciting to have been picked as a location for the filming of a DVD. It was a great pleasure to meet Adam. He knows his stuff and has been learning as well while he has been here.”
