She said she is delighted to support a drive to promote businesses that use produce grown or reared in our region.

Kate, who runs a 117-acre farm business with her husband Ludo Graham near Monmouth in Wales, said: "I'm very happy to support this campaign. I've been jumping up and down about this for years.

"The bottom line is - without farmers we don't get to eat.

"I for one, would rather eat food from a farm where I know, whether it is livestock or arable, how it has been reared or grown. I want to know it has been reared or grown in a way that is sensitive to our wildlife and the environment.

"By being an informed consumer and being able to find out exactly where your food comes and being connected to the people who produce the food that I eat, will allow me to be much more informed.

"It will also enable me, in a fairly easy way, because we all have very busy lives, to support good farming practice, which can only be a good thing for our countryside, for our farmers and indeed, for our own health."

The Star is creating an online directory of businesses that support our farmers.

The campaign was today backed by North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson and also joined by Dudley Zoo, which sources its raw meat from Shropshire and prides itself on using farms in the Midlands.

You might be a butcher, baker, deli or even a florist. You may run a restaurant, pub or cafe. Or you may sell your wares at fairs or farmers markets.

As long as you use produce made by farmers in our region, you can be included.

The Shropshire Star will create an online directory of businesses that support our farmers.

And we will send you a Fair Deal for Farmers window sticker that you can display to your customers.
