The stage is set for Shrewsbury’s biggest-ever outdoor concert tonight with pop superstar Jessie J set to entertain 11,000 fans in the Quarry.
Queues were already forming early this morning to get into the showground ahead of the gates opening at 5pm.
It comes as weather forecasters predict a month’s worth of rain could fall in a day in Shrewsbury ahead of the gig. But they are hopeful the worst of the wet weather will be over by the time the concert gets going.
Music from support acts A*M*E and Jay James Picton will be starting from 7pm before Jessie J ‘s 75-minute set from 9pm. Concertgoers have been told not to bring gazebos to the event due to the large numbers attending the show.
People over 18 attending the gig will be able to bring their own alcohol on to the site, while food is also allowed.
There will also be a number of food and drink outlets running in the park on the day.
Concertgoers have also been advised to arrange lifts to the site by organisers, with town centre car parks expected to be very busy as thousands of fans pour into the town. They have also been reminded not to be in Raven Meadows multi-storey car park which will be closing at 6pm.
Despite today’s wet weather, concert promoter Keith Louch said conditions in the Quarry were fine.
“I would advise people to bring waterproofs along but don’t bring big umbrellas because they blocked the view and you will be asked to take them down.
“Excited doesn’t even cover how I’m feeling about the gig at the moment.”
Despite the huge crowds expected Mr Louch said security at the gig would be normal.

Shrewsbury Council Pah!
The biggest concert to be held at the quarry and Shrewsbury council in their wisdom are not operating the park and rides?????
It is going to be bedlam this evening!
ben
agree about the park and ride and to make matters worse theyre advertising their car parks as FREE after 6pm which is going to encourage more traffic into the town!
Are they not the same people that are the highways authority and have a statutory duty to reduce congestion and co2 emissions ?

I am quite surprised this gig hasn't been cancelled on H&S grounds, and yes, I do have tickets, but note that MFest has been cancelled as have other events on H&S grounds. Not being an Eeyore, just surprised.

I emailed the council two months ago to ask them about park and ride facilities for this event; apparently it is up to the promoter to request this service, and they haven't.
I'll be there come rain or shine, it's just a shame no-one had the foresight to make it easier not only for the attendees to negotiate Shrewsbury, but for the rest of locals too :(
