The sunshine and bright weather saw hundreds of people descend on Newport for its annual celebrations of England's patron saint.

People could see Morris dancing and enter a fancy dress competition as well watch the eighth annual parade.

Meanwhile, a St George's Day fun event held was in the castle grounds at Bridgnorth.

Newport was transformed as the procession left the car park at the Shakespeare and marched through the town.

The event ran all day in The Square in Newport, with performers re-enacting the legend of the dragon slaying.

Councillor Peter Scott said it was a great celebration.

He said: "It has been an absolutely brilliant event. We have been blessed with great weather - it really has made it and lots of people have come out to enjoy the celebration.

More than 500 people descended on Newport for last year's St George's Day celebrations.

A fancy dress competition was held and there was further entertainment from the Bedcote Morris dancers.

Generous donations by members of the public meant that more than £1,000 was raised for local charities.
