Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre, near Wem, is once again holding its pet rescue day, with centres from across the county coming together to give pet lovers the chance to find a new friend.

The event will be held at Shrewsbury Quarry Park on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. It will include a fun dog show.

There are expected to be about 20 rescue centres represented at the event where people can find out how to go about adopting an animal. Visitors will also be able to find out more about how to help their local rescue centre by fundraising, volunteering and dog walking.

Jenny Martinez, of Grinshill Animal Rescue, said: "We held the first event several years ago and it was so successful we decided to make it an annual thing.

"There will be centres for animals like guinea pigs, chickens, rabbits as well as dogs and cats present. They will be promoting what they do, where they are and how they are funded. There will be lots going on. We have got someone coming who is bringing a dummy dog so people can practice doing CPR. We have got a group from RAF Shawbury helping with things like car parking, the dog show and setting up.

"Rather than do it to raise money, it is more about telling people what's out there, and rather than go out and buy a pet, they can get a rescue one."

Sunday's event will also feature face painting, bouncy castle and stalls.
