Shrewsbury student wins prestigious film award at London event
A young film maker is celebrating after her work scooped an award in a high-profile national competition.
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College student Eleanor Webb Thomas won Into Space & Home category for over 13s at the Into Film Awards, at London's Odeon, Leicester Square. The 16 year old, who was presented with the award by actors Sophie Cookson from Kingsman: The Secret Service, and George Blagden from Versailles and Les Misérables, said she was overwhelmed when she heard her name.
Eleanor, from Meole Brace, said: "I was really shocked. When they put up the nominations I just thought 'no, I am not going to win', then I suddenly went really relaxed and when they said my name I was just really shocked. I'm absolutely delighted to have won this award and I really hope it will help me to move forward in the industry." Her film, which lasts just over one minute and 30 seconds, sets the making of a cup of coffee in the home against the launch of a space rocket.
The competition category was supported by the UK Space Agency and was the culmination of a new competition designed to inspire young people about British ESA astronaut Tim Peake's adventures through a short live action or animation film.
The red carpet award ceremony was attended by a number of luminaries from the film industry including Daniel Craig, Eddie Redmayne and was hosted by radio and TV presenter, Edith Bowman.
