Traders across Market Drayton have been decorating their shops and entering the town's Christmas shop window display competition.

Something Old Something New, in Shropshire Street, beat off stiff opposition to win the best shop window display in the second Market Drayton Town Council-run competition.

Meanwhile, Meadons Insurance Brokers, in Cheshire Street, won the prize for best office window display.

The business also won last year by decorating their window with items from the Minions film.

This year they went for another film theme and decorated the window with items from the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast.

Sue Markham, commercial accounts executive, said the team was thrilled to have won.

She said: "All the team at Meadons Insurance are so happy to have won first prize in the competition.

"We would also like to congratulate Salopian Care for being runner up and Coverwell Insurance for third place.

"Also to the winner of the shop category Something Old, Something New, second place Cooke & Thomas and third place Rumbling Tummies.

"

Kate Harvey, assistant clerk at the town council, said: "There were more entries this year which is very pleasing, the town looks wonderful at night and we are all pleased people have taken part to make the festive season come to light in Market Drayton."

The winners of both categories were given an engraved slate plaque and second and third places were awarded with a certificate.

Councillor David Minnery, mayor of Market Drayton, said he was impressed with all the entries and found it difficult to pick a winner.

He said: "I have been impressed by the number and variety of shop window displays this year.

"Every year sees a rise in effort and innovation and it has been particularly difficult to select the winners.

"I would like to thank everyone who took part in the contest – you helped to make our town a brighter place to visit."
