The Shropshire Star-run competition saw customers taking tokens to their favourite Indian restaurants to support them in the hope they would win the title. The Third Place, in Frankwell, Shrewsbury, won the prize.

Manager Saimon Choudury said: "It is great. We're really pleased about this competition.

"We really appreciate our customers for their support. We try to do fresh and very traditional foods at The Third Place, and we try to keep up our standards. We want to thank the Shropshire Star for running this special event.

"It's a really good thing to get, and a very big encouragement."

Shropshire Star newspaper sales manager Kevin Edwards said: "The quality of the food in The Third Place was exceptionally high and the level of service was absolutely brilliant.

"They deserve to be named Indian Restaurant of the Year."

Eight Indian restaurants from across Shropshire took part in the competition.

They encouraged their customers to purchase the Shropshire Star over the eight token collect days and then put them in the token box which was placed within the restaurant.

As well as collecting tokens, there was also a mystery shopper element to the competition.

This saw a visitor checking the quality of the food was to a high standard.
