Date set for town's Winter Festival

The date has been set for the start of a town's annual Winter Festival season.

Newtown Town Council has confirmed the town's Christmas lights will be officially switched on with a Christmas procession, music, carol signing and entertainment on November 25.

The evening will include produce stalls and a host of others in High Street, as well as charity stalls in Bear Lanes Shopping Centre and other activities.

Father Christmas will switch the lights on with Newtown's Carnival Queen at 7pm, although the evening's events will begin at 5pm on a stage in High Street, with performances from Maesyrhandir Primary School Band, NYP Theatre Group and Addict Dance.

A Christmas procession, led by Father Christmas, will start at 6.30pm from the town hall gates, heading along Back Lane and into Broad Street.
