The Shrewsbury Winter Festival made its first appearance last year and preparations for this event, which takes place at the Quarry on December 10 and 11, are already well under way.

Organiser Beth Heath said that a number of changes have been made to the festival to ensure that bad weather does not impact on people's enjoyment of the event – or affect the park, with last year seeing some areas of grass damaged.

She said: "We have changed the layout and some some practical things to make sure the weather does not affect it.

"We will have more hard standing areas and use of the natural paths in the Quarry."

There will be over 170 stands at the festival, as well as a big top tent packed with activities for children, including circus skills, elf craft workshops, Christmas films and story telling.

Mrs Heath said they had been delighted with the response to the festival, and said that exhibitors had demanded it returned for 2016.

She said: "The exhibitors have been badgering us since last year to put it on again, the visitors said they loved it.

"We had about 10,000 people over the two days so considering it was armageddon weather we were really chuffed.

"We have ordered 5C and a light sprinkling of snow for this year, so it will be fantastic.

"We always want to make it an epic family day out."
