The former sports star and television personality made quick work of bowling over fans when he made a guest appearance at The Bed Show in Telford yesterday. The Question of Sport captain and former winner of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! signed autographs and chatted to delegates during the exhibition at Telford International Centre.

He was at the trade expo as a guest of bedroom company Sealy UK. The ex-England spinner also took time to heap praise on the British teams for successes at the Rio Olympics, the Paralympic Games and to encourage young people to pursue sports activities and their dreams.

"We've had a great summer of sports, with the Olympics, football, Wimbledon and a great series with Pakistan in the cricket – and now England are heading off for Bangladesh," he said. "I won't be going due to my filming commitments for A Question of Sport but it should be a good tour for the side. I would say to young people in Telford and Shropshire to keep pushing for your goals to achieve the optimum that you can be.

"The Rio Games were a great example of that. Play sport, get fit, enjoy yourself and make sure you get a good nights' sleep." Tufnell played 42 tests and 20 one-day matches for England, as well as playing for Middlesex from 1986 to 2002.

Following his retirement the 50-year-old has built on his popularity with numerous appearances on television and also as a commentator for Test Match Special.
