The King's Singers, a multi-award winning vocal ensemble that has been going nearly 50 years, will be coming to St Laurence's Church in Ludlow in October, it has been announced – complete with new member Patrick Dunachie, who began his singing career as a member of St Laurence's Church Choir.

Dunachie, 23, officially joined the singers this year, as first counter-tenor, replacing long-serving member David Hurley.

His parents Steve and Penny still live in Ludlow, where he had his first taste of choral singing at St Laurence's, and where he returned after a stint in the Hereford Cathedral Choir before going to study music at King's College, Cambridge.

But it was while singing with Christ Church Cathedral Choir at rival top university Oxford that he got an email from the King's Singers asking him to audition.

He said: "In the coming year, I'll be travelling all over Europe, to the United States and South Africa, singing about 110 concerts in total. We'll be recording three CDs and undertaking a busy schedule of masterclasses and coaching. Among all this, one of the things I am looking forward to most is coming to Ludlow to perform in St Laurence's."
