Ivor Novello Award-winning singer Albert Hammond heads to Shrewsbury

An Ivor Novello Award-winning singer who has been making hits for 50 years will headline Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn on Thursday.

Albert Hammond has written multiple hits since he scored his first with Little Arrows at the age of 24.

He has been responsible for more than 40 chart-topping hits and many of his most beloved songs, like The Air That I Breathe and When I Need You, have become hits multiple times with various artists, decade after decade.

Theatre Severn spokesman Pip Bayley said: "Fans can hear the songs, the stories behind them and more about the artistes Albert has worked with such as Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond, Julio Iglesias, Willie Nelson, Whitney Houston and Tina Turner.

"Albert will be joined on stage by his four-piece band and his live performances showcase his tremendous musical abilities and further hit songs such as It Never Rains In Southern California, The Free Electric Band, Down By The River, One Moment In Time and I'm A Train."

In 2015, Albert Hammond received the iconic Ivor Novello Award for his Outstanding Song Collection.
