Following in the footsteps of Birmingham's popular market, Southwater will be transformed by 22 chalets offering a variety of drinks, treats and gifts.

The market will run seven days a week from December 1 to 23, and while it won't be on the same scale as the market in Birmingham, organisers are promising that it will be well worth visiting.

From hot chocolate and mulled wine around the Christmas tree to small gifts and novelties, traders are already putting their names forward to take part, with more information expected over the coming weeks.

Opening hours are expected to match those of Telford Shopping Centre for much of the week.

But the people behind it are hoping they'll be able to keep the market running until 9pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The announcement has already proven a success with nearby residents, with more than 1,400 people indicating on Facebook that they are interested in attending.

More than 600 people have said they are definitely going, while the information has been shared more than 500 times.

Details of the market were released as part of the Christmas in Telford Facebook group, which will keep track of all the festive happenings within the town.

Birmingham's Christmas Market is the largest German market outside Germany and Austria, with millions of people attending each year.
