A full day of activities was held during Ellesmere Carnival, which saw people of all ages get involved and visitors turn up in fancy dress.

Organisers said that they might have had a record-breaking crowd of visitors, with the streets full of carnival-goers.

The day's entertainment started in the town's Cremorne Gardens during Saturday morning, before the grand procession made its way through the town started at 12pm.

After the parade, the carnival events carried on down by the Mere where there were various stalls, a refreshment tent and an entertainment ring where various acts performed for the crowds.

Then in the evening, musicians took to the stage for the Ellesmere Rocks music festival.

At 4pm the live music show brought local bands, singers and songwriters to the stage.

Alan Hinton, carnival secretary, said the event had been a success.

He said: "It's been very, very busy. I think it's been a really good parade. It's gone well.

"It's possibly a record crowd this year.

"It seems to be a bit of a struggle to get around.

"We've just had a few spots of rain and a shower for about one minute, but the weather has been very good to us.

"I would say we'd probably do another next year. I imagine it'll be the same or similar.

"It'd be nice to have a few more helpers next year.

"We've had a few gaps which increases the stress levels, but watching all the kid's faces light up makes it all seem worth it.

"We'd like to thank everybody for coming, and apologies to anyone who has experienced any disruptions."

Donations from carnival-goers on the day went towards raising funds for future carnival and music events, to make sure that the carnival tradition continues for years to come.

Some of the money raised by the carnival also goes to various community groups and charities.
