Visitors to a town square in Telford were transported back in time to a bygone age of penny farthings, maypole dancing and Punch and Judy shows.

Scores of people turned out for Madeley Victorian Fete, which was held in Anstice Square.

Other attractions included the Fusion Theatre School, carousels, a magician, hog roast and refreshments.

Youngsters were able to try their luck at games such as hoopla, hook a duck, a coconut shy and more.

The event was organised by Madeley Town Council and the Anstice Community Trust in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council.

The Community Trust received cash from Telford & Wrekin Council's Pride in your High Street fund for the community event.

It was held on Sunday alongside the usual food and craft market in the town from 10am to 4pm.

Park Avenue was closed to make room for the festivities with families enjoying activities around the area.

In the ballroom there was also an exhibition by final year architecture students from Wolverhampton University. Madeley Town Council clerk Kath Petty said: "It went really well, there was a really good atmosphere. Lots of people came along, it was very well attended which was pleasing to see. We went with the Victorian theme because the Anstice is a Victorian building and John Anstice was a Victorian philanthropist."
