V Festival: Music fans urged to ignore sat-navs

Motorists travelling to V Festival are being urged to ignore sat-nav instructions due to roadworks near Weston Park.

Thousands of music fans are expected to descend at the venue on the Shropshire border from August 19 to 22.

Staffordshire Police said drivers should not use a sat-nav or internet route map but follow the event signs along the route as there will be some road closures in place.

Supt Elliott Sharrard-Williams, lead event commander, said: "With thousands of vehicles expected during the weekend, some congestion is inevitable. Traffic will be monitored and contingency plans are in place to re-direct vehicles if necessary.

"We would advise travellers who are not attending the festival to use alternative routes, particularly to consider using the motorway network instead of the A5.

"The village of Tong and some local roads – Beighton Lane leading to Blymhill Gate, Old Chester Road and Mill Lane – will be closed to festival traffic but will be staffed by stewards to ensure residents and emergency services have full access."

Congestion-busting plans will also be in operation along the major networks.

Drivers travelling northbound on the M6 should join the M54, then exit at Junction 3 for Whitchurch and follow signs along the A41 to the car parks.

Drivers travelling southbound on the M6 should leave at Junction 12 at Cannock and follow the signs along the A5 to the car parks. On departure vehicles should follow the directions signs that will direct them back to the motorways.

Drop-off and collection points will be clearly signposted from both directions on the A5, as will routes for camper vans.

A bus service will be in operation for a small cost from Telford train station to Weston Park and back.

Coaches and buses will use a separate gate to avoid car entrances and exits becoming congested.
