Workmen have moved on to the park in the past few days to start setting up the marquees, which will be home to some of the most spectacular displays from the professional exhibitors.

The show, which will take place on August 12 and 13, is one of Shropshire's premier attractions, and thousands of visitors will pour through the gates over the two days. Work will continue in the Quarry up until the start of the show, and a host of attractions have been lined up for this year's event.

Nigel Pearson, chairman of marketing for show organisers Shropshire Horticultural Society, said they have a line-up to cater for all ages and interests, including a children's area which has been improved.

He said: "We have been working hard on putting together a line-up that appeals to everyone. We always try and make some new additions while retaining the basic format that proves so popular with the show's many thousands of visitors.

"We are confident we have come up with a programme that will appeal to all ages and interests. There will be more in the children's area and we are always trying to make the best use of the space we have available. The Quarry is a beautiful venue and it is a question of trying to get as much into that space as possible."

Mr Pearson said ticket sales for the event had been brisk so far.
