Councillor Paul Milner addressed hundreds of people at the launch of the two-day cultural festival, which was the first time the Powys Eisteddfod has returned to Oswestry since 2002.

Mr Milner said: "Oswestry has a proud history and was, of course, part of the old Powys and we stand proudly between Offa's Dyke and Watt's Dyke.

"Our association with Wales is long standing and we are very proud of our vibrant Welsh tradition that has shaped so much about the town of Oswestry.

"It is a great honour for our town to welcome the Powys Eisteddfod and it clearly indicates the strong and enthusiastic Welsh culture that we still retain and cherish.

"Can I congratulate all those involved in bringing the eisteddfod to Oswestry and everyone who has been involved in fundraising for this wonderful event.

"I wish it every success and sincerely hope that you will keep returning to Oswestry in the years ahead."

Throughout the weekend, the historic town came alive with culture and colour, with poetry, recitals, folk singing, dancing and arts and crafts.
