The show president, who has been involved with the event for more than 40 years, also revealed he would be leaving his usual stand behind next month to appreciate the sights and sounds.

Mr Hughes, who first used a stand for his family business, Hughes Bros Agriculture Machinery, in 1961, said: "Myself and my wife, Brenda, will have a break from the stand this year presenting trophies and hosting the President's Lunch.

"All in all it promises to be a great day out for everyone." The annual agricultural event will be held on the showground on August 6, with a focus on farming and family fun. Show chairman Malcolm Roberts said the show was coming at a crucial time for agricultural industry.

"We feel more than ever it is a time when people should be encouraged to buy British and to buy local produce," he said.

"Visitors can see how our food is produced, from field to fork." Mr Roberts said the show set an example with local produce on the menu in the members' and public dining areas, and in many of the event's other catering outlets. Agriculture will be the focus on the day but there will also be ring attractions including the Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team and the Bob Hogg Sheepdogs and Ducks Display.

Displays from the Border Counties School of Gymnastics, Porthywaen Senior Band, the M D Warriors and the New Saints F C Community Foundation will be held on the village green.
