Bidders from around the globe took part in the sale at the farm of John Hancocks, who amassed his haul of military and aviation machinery and memorabilia over 30 years.

Mr Hancocks' fascination with militaria and aeroplanes began while doing national service as a teenager, as part of an RAF "crash party" salvage team.

Stationed at RAF Cosford, among other bases, Mr Hancocks, aged 85, now lives with wife Pat at Rowley Farm, Holt Heath, between Worcester and the south Shropshire border.

The sale was conducted at the farm by Shrewsbury-based auctioneers Halls.
