Model-makers descend on Shropshire for event

Dozens of model-making enthusiasts descended on the county for a kit swap event.

Organiser Gary Stevens planned the event, which took place at Ellesmere Market Hall, after the success of the North Shropshire Model Show last November.

It allowed like-minded people to sell or swap their surplus stash and raise funds for buying more kits and memorabilia.

And Mr Stevens, secretary of Shropshire Scale Modellers and the Telford branch of the International Plastic Modelling Society, said the event was a great success.

He said: "It went very well. About 100 people or so turned up. They came from Shropshire and further afield from Stoke-on-Trent, Kidderminster and Wales.

"I saw quite a bit of rare kit. Items can range from the Airfix-type plastic kits to model railway kits and accessories; die cast models and books as well as militaria.

"We are now gearing up for the model show on April 3 at RAF Cosford Museum. We are also holding another model show in Ellesmere arranged for October 2.

It is an interesting hobby and there are still plenty of people who like to take part and collect models."
