Overwater Marina, based near Market Drayton, has received the Inland Marina of the Year award from The Yacht Harbour Association.

The marina, which opened in 2010, is situated on the Shropshire Union Canal close to Audlem and has once again been recognised for its beautiful countryside location, spacious design and friendly atmosphere.

The award was presented to the owners Janet and Angus Maughan, and marina manager David Johnson, at an awards ceremony at the London Boat Show.

Mr Johnson said: "I am so delighted we won the award. To be named the best inland marina in the country for the second year running is absolutely wonderful and true recognition of all the hard work and effort the family and our fantastic team of marina staff have put in.

"The award is even more special to us because it's voted for by our customers and we would especially like to thank everyone who voted for us."

The award is presented annually by TYHA, which is part of British Marine, and includes all its Gold Anchor-accredited marinas. The Gold Anchor scheme has been auditing marinas throughout the world for over 25 years.

Jon White, general manager for TYHA, said: "The increased number of marinas nominated makes all the finalists' achievements even more impressive; they clearly know how to look after their customers. Our feedback is that the awards have encouraged marina operators and their staff to go that extra mile and build even closer relationships with their customers."

Overwater Marina has already become the first canal marina to be awarded five Gold Anchors by the British Marine Federation.
