Raising a toast to Oswestry Beer Festival

Nearly 200 people turned out to sample real ales, ciders and fine wines at the Oswestry Beer Festival.

Organisers had been worried about a possible low turn-out after only selling 12 tickets in advance of the event, which took place on Friday and Saturday at Oswestry Cricket Club.

But swarms paid on the door to make it such a roaring success it will now become an annual event.

As well as the usual selections of real ale and cider, for the first time this year there was a pop-up wine bar provided by Twelve Green Bottles, a local wine shop.

Cricket club manager Hugh Roberts said: "The two evenings were fantastic, we couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better really. We only sold 12 tickets so we didn't really know what to expect, so to have 170 people turn out was unbelievable really.

"The wine bar was a really great addition and was packed on both nights – it went so well the guy running it is now thinking of taking it to other beer festivals."

The festival was run in association with Oswestry website The Best Of Oswestry and local brewers, Stonehouse Brewery. All proceeds will go towards the junior and disability cricket sections of the club.

All food proceeds, as supplied by Hartshorns, will go to the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund.
