The Shropshire North Six group (SN6) of churches is supporting BBC Countryfile's sponsored rambles for Children in Need this weekend.

SN6 is a group of Church of England churches in Whitchurch, Edstaston, Fauls, Prees, Tilstock and Whixall.

Members of Mossy Church, a nature group run by the SN6 churches, organised the walk to raise funds for charity after watching the BBC One programme.

The Rev Richard Clarkson, from St Alkmund's Church, Whitchurch, said: "We have never organised a charity ramble together before but hopefully if it all goes well we will plan another.

"It all came about because we are part of a group called Mossy Church who meet regularly for prayers followed by a walk and then bread and soup. We had planned a Mossy Church meeting this Saturday and saw on Countryfile that rambles were taking place for charity on the same day so we wanted to get involved.

"Anyone is welcome to join."

The first ramble will take place on Saturday around the Brown Moss site. The group will set off from the main car park just off the A41 south of Whitchurch at 11am and return there for bread and soup at midday.

For more determined ramblers, on the afternoon of Sunday there will be a five-and-a-half-mile walk around the Lee Brockhurst area. The group will meet at 2pm in the parking area just off the A49.
