Rugby World Cup legend coming to Shropshire

Rugby World Cup legend Joost Van De Westhuizen will attend a question-and-answer session at a Shropshire cinema which is screening a film about his life.

Cineworld in Telford will host a special screening of The Glory Game: The Joost Van De Westhuizen Story on October 16. The film tells the story of the South African star's battle with motor neurone disease.

Van De Westhuizen will attend the screening with his brother Pieter and the film's producer/director Odette Schwegler.

Van De Westhuizen, who now has difficulty speaking, will address the audience through Pieter, while Schwegler will also be taking questions from the floor.

The player was a member of South Africa's World Cup winning team in 1995 and is the only player to have played for the country in three World Cups.

He has been confined to a wheelchair for the past two years, and the film will show how his life has changed since the diagnosis in 2011.

The red carpet event will begin at 7.45pm. Tickets, priced £15, are available by emailing sarah_lannie@hotmail.com

All proceeds will go to the J9 Foundation, a charity which supports people with the disease in South Africa.
