The "Blitz Hill" event saw the Blists Hill museum transformed into a living representation of the British Home Front during the war years.

Laura Simcox, one of the event organisers, said: "We sold 1,000 advance tickets and the great weather boosted that number at the gate.

"This is our third 1940s event and it is clearly a very popular era given the number of people wearing period outfits."

Two of the visitors dressed up in 1940s outfits were Debbie and James Warman, from Shrewsbury.

Debbie said: "We attended the Severn Valley Railway 1940s weekend last year and had a great time.

"We enjoy these events as social evenings as much as anything else, but I like to wear the clothes and we will definitely be coming back here."

Visitors were entertained by a fairground, several bands, reenactment groups, historical vehicles and even the Home Guard.
