The comics, both famous for their work as stand-ups and on television, had the crowd in stitches as the event came to a close.

Organisers hailed the festival as the best one yet, with more than 16,000 fans packing into the Shropshire County Showground over the three days, including Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski and mayor Councillor Beverley Baker.

And with the big clean-up set to start today, organisers say anybody who comes along to help will be given free tickets for next summer's event.

Festival director Dene Edwards said: "The fourth Shrewsbury Fields Forever festival has been fantastic, definitely our best yet.

"I estimate we've welcomed around 16,000 people to the site over the weekend and enjoyed special visits from the MP and Shrewsbury mayor."

Now the clean-up starts, if anyone wants to come to the showground to help tomorrow we will sort them free tickets to next year's event, to which tickets will be on sale very shortly."

Kane and Nelson were the perfect choices to end the festival on a high according to fans. Darren Edwards, 29, from Oswestry, said: "It was a brilliant way to close another brilliant weekend."

Will Carter tweeted: "Comedy was class to finish the weekend."
