They drew the event to a close with a sell-out concert that proved they had lost none of their energy despite 50 years on the road.

The eisteddfod was a new experience for singer and guitarist Francis Rossi, but the 64-year-old said he loved every minute of it.

He said: "It has been great. Jools Holland told me he did the Eisteddfod and what a brilliant place and atmosphere it was. He also explained about the occasion and the event's history."

Fireworks ended the night to end another successful week of performances in Llangollen.

Stars including Bryn Terfel and Caro Emerald have graced the stage and the week was largely blessed with excellent weather.
