Jerry the Clown, otherwise known as 18-year-old Kyle Samuel,

with the rest of Peter Jolly's Circus.

The funnyman was forced to wear his second best pair for his performances on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

But now a kindly stranger has brought back Mr Samuel's shoe - albeit a little damaged from its adventure.

Anthony Beckwith, a spokesman for the circus, said: "We got the shoe back.

"It's a bit broken but Kyle thinks he found a place to repair it. It's lost its sole so it looks like it has been run over.

"He's been rushing around all morning trying to find a cobbler to fix it, but it is quite hard because of the size of it."

The circus don't know who returned the shoe, though, as it was just left for them to find this morning.

"We don't know if it was someone who came to the show yesterday or someone who came by last night.

"When the show starts, there's no-one on the box office, and when we went to look this morning it had just been left on top of the counter - so as we say it could've been someone who came to the show or just someone who lives nearby.

"It is a shame because if they had told us, or come up as they were coming into the show we would've given them free tickets."

Peter Jolly's Circus is at Sutton Hill Car Boot Site, hosting nightly performances until April 21.
