After a mix-up over his booking our reviewer returns to Rowton Castle near Shrewsbury ready to give it a second chance.

The lounge was splendid. It was redolent of a different era.
Rowton Castle occupies an ancient site and its known history seems to date back to the 15th century. During the early 19th century, the whole mansion was decorated in the style of the gothic revival. A round tower, courtyard and gate house were built at the same time to give a medieval appearance.
